Country Matters Ltd started life in 1995 as grape in the sunny, warm Bordeaux region of France- and then was reformed into a limited company in April 2012. To put it honestly one spring evening after a rather over-indulgent dinner I was showing my father (Peter) some sporting photographs which I had taken a few days before, set in our lovely Wiltshire countryside.
As the evening progressed and we embarked on our second bottle it all became clear. With the enthusiasm and creativity flowing even faster than the wine we concluded that we were going into the gift and houswares industry using country photography on quality products.
We have a great sales team consisting of six agents and two full-time sales people. The office is run by Kate who has done a sterling job trying to keep up with the rapid growth of the business. We have used cutting-edge technology to run a paperless office with the sales team using iPads to take their orders which directly interface with our computer invoicing system, as well as the warehouse. Kate is assisted by Maria and Hannah. The office is based in Westbury, Wilts.
Our warehouse is based in Bristol and is run with relentless efficiency by Patrick, who never ceases to astound us on how much product he and a small part-time team can get out the door in a day. Most of the time we run on a “next day” delivery and rarely go beyond four days.
Born in 1988. He studied property agency and marketing at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. When he graduated the property market was very depressed and there was little opportunity in that field for a job. Always wanting to run his own business and the idea emerged at the dinner table when we were talking about his passion for country photography.
Zac currently looks after the design side of the business, developing the customer base, as well as the general running of the company.
Born in 1952 and cut his teeth in retail before he even reached 20. Peter has worked in retail and manufacturing ever since, and his experience has proved invaluable in developing the business. I look after the financial side of the business and share the day-to-day running with Zac.
The NEW Karen Laurence-Rowe African range is very exciting as Karen has given us exclusive rights over 10 fabulous paintings that we have replicated onto placemats, coasters, trinket trays, cushions, and throws, and of course greeting cards.
Karen was wildlife artist of the year in 2012 and won the Simon Combes Conservation artist award in Canada in 2015 so we are very honoured that she has chosen us to represent her in this major launch.
Country Matters Ltd, attended a large exhibition in March at the "Royal Institute of Great Britain" in London where Karen donated a large painting of endangered rhinos for auction with all proceeds going to the "Helping Rhino Trust", the painting sold for £19,000, which was a huge boost to this fund raising event.
Country Matters Ltd contributed 50% of all products sold from its KLR range at this event which was donated to the “Helping Rhino Trust" ( a registered charity dedicated to the protection of rhinos).
We are still contrubuting to the Trust on all sales of Karen's work going forward. This is a very important cause and Country Matters Ltd are proud to support it.
